Paul McAneary Architects recently completed Faceted Chamber 1 to 1 of terrace Edwardian house situated in a conservation area in Hammersmith, London.
The project brief was to renovate and expand the house of three rooms on two floors which was in a state of disrepair and need major renovation and modernization. The client requested a contemporary and functional design, which allowed him to collect the garden as an extension of domestic space other than “outside”.
LDCs have responded to the statement in the 1980 demolishing existing rear extension property crumbling and dilapidated. The new extension is added by a line clean and clear at the back that respects its heritage and gives this home unique, uniform appearance. The facade is visually striking sculptural still retains a sense of elegance.
The firm expanded and reconfigured existing space by designing a large open concept: the concept of conducting the whole design is a twist of 30 degrees which allows physical and perceptual overlap between the interior and exterior spaces, between thresholds of garden and kitchen. This conceptual idea is manifested in the details of the facade of zinc and the floating bridge facets external, being reduced to a thin rim slopes. The garden becomes an essential element of living space.
The client requested a house without the mess and practice. LDCs have responded with their walls designed storage concept – a simple multi-purpose economic Ikea carcasses inside and high quality lacquered door handle to the outer surface. They designed a hidden cupboard at the end of the kitchen bench which carefully hides kitchen clutter. The technology is also hidden as much as possible to fully integrate all requirements so that the space could be as calm, refined and contemplative as possible
